Professional practices and responsibilities, trade resources, and the value of design organizations will be discussed. Through a series of projects and activities and an exploration of the work of notable interior designers and architects, students will begin to identify the various aspects of interior design to which they personally respond.

Elements of Design I
This course introduces students to the basic principles and elements used in two dimensional design solutions with emphasis on the use of line, shape, pattern, and rhythm. Course work will offer students the opportunity to develop an aesthetic vocabulary, abstract problem solving skills and the ability to evaluate the design process independently and critically.
This course is a survey of interior design, decoration, and furnishings throughout history. Emphasis is given to the historical and cultural influences that have affected the design of the interior environment from antiquity through the nineteenth century.

Color Theory and Application
This course introduces students to the aesthetic, historical, perceptual, scientific, and psychological aspects of color and light and the implication of color principles and theories to interior design. Students will explore color through experimentation, observation, and evaluation. Contemporary design projects will be analyzed for their use of color theory.
Kitchen and Bath Design
This course provides an in-depth look at the complex issues impacting the design of kitchens and bathrooms. Students will examine effective work center planning strategies, equipment and fixture specifications, storage and cabinetry needs, and the selection of surfaces and finishes for performance and visual impact,
An introductory study of the principles and elements of color and design theory. Students critique aspects of a visual representation by analyzing the components of design and the use of color by the artist.
An introduction to the basic techniques of representative drawing using pencil and value markers. Students sketch and critique still-life settings, interior, and exterior elements. Emphasis is placed on students’ ability to produce representational drawings within a short time frame.
An introduction to the design and composition of presentation images, illustrations, and renderings for interior design applications. The course introduces students to the fundamental principles of Adobe Photoshop software both as a principle means of creating images and as part of a production environment incorporating hand-crafted imagery, Photoshop images, and images from other software environments (e.g., Adobe Illustrator and Autodesk AutoCAD).
Students use and comprehend the technical and aesthetic principles of lighting design for commercial and residential applications. Basic properties of light as used in rendering, photography, and computer-generated visualizations are taught.
Students are introduced to materials, finishes, and furnishings, with methods for understanding appropriate application, estimating, and specifications as they apply to residential and non-residential interior environments.
A comprehensive project demonstrating residential and commercial themes in a mixed use format. Focusing on functional space planning and design, code requirements and material specifications, the students will prepare a proposal for a specific design project. Construction documentation and presentation drawings incorporating both hand and digital applications will culminate in a formal presentation suitable for portfolio.
Business Practices for Interior Design
An exploration of the business practices necessary to develop and maintain an interior design firm. Topics include professional ethics, contract documents, vendor relations, association membership, marketing, networking and social media opportunities. Business Practices
This course explores standard business procedures commonly associated with the practice of interior design. Students will study various types of design practices, financial management and compensation, ethical practices, professional development, legal liability, and issues related to licensing and certification. The management of a typical interior design project will be studied, including writing proposals and contracts, specifications, bidding procedures, budgets, construction schedules, contractor negotiations and collaboration, and project administration.
Students explore and develop a portfolio format suitable to incorporate a representative sampling of work into a finished portfolio. Design exercises in specification, representation of materials, and renderings are emphasized to enhance a professional quality presentation.

Students will use AutoCAD software to take an idea from concept a to the final product. This class is intended to demonstrate the latest improvements in AutoCAD software. Topics covered include AutoCAD tools, 2D commands, isometric drawing, and orthographic projection.

This course explores all of the elements that are necessary to succeed in a business venture. An advanced overview focusing on the business plan, the organization and support team, the marketing plan, process management, cash planning and working capital management, quality, service and ethics, and growth strategies.
In order to achieve success in this course, each student will be expected to:
Be on time for class
Attend all classes or bring a note excusing missed classes
Catch up on any missed work due to an absence
Make good use of class time
Explore new ideas and develop new skills
Turn in all assignments on the due date
Have supplies in class at all times
Maintain a clean work area and return equipment and supplies to their proper place at the end of every class

Classroom Tips:
Absences –You will need to make up missed work. This may need to happen at lunch or after school. Make arrangements with your teacher to get caught up outside of class time.
Arrival – When you come to class, sit in your assigned seat and wait for attendance and instructions. Classes always begin with attendance and instructions for work to be completed that day.
During Class – Participate in activities to the best of your ability. Be a team player in the group you work with. Don’t rely on others in your group to do all the work or clean up.
